| Combining passion and virtuosity with a fierce commitment to the music of their time, the members of ensemble GREEN bring a fresh, innovative and vibrant face to new music performance. Since being labeled *gifted* by the Los Angeles Times for their debut performance at the Ojai Music Festivals *Meet the Artist* series in 97, eG has developed a great following and respect within the LA music community.
In its performance choices, eG intertwines the musical worlds of seminal 20th Century composers such as Bartok, Messiaen, Carter and Cage with innovative new works by living west coast composers such as Donald Crockett, Stephen Hartke, Jeffery Holmes, Arthur Jarvinen, Frederick Lesemann, Andrew Norman and Alex Shapiro. The diversity of their repertoire, coupled with their commitment to expanding audience*s musical horizons, constantly delivers fresh and exciting programming, stimulating both the curiosity of listeners and the creativity of composers. They have been highly involved in both collaboration with and premiering works by their composer contemporaries. During the 04-05 season e G premiered two major works by Jeffrey Holmes. During the 05-06 season they have premiered works by Alex Shapiro, Alex Bozman and on the final concert of the season they premiered a new work by Frederick Lesemann, *Concertino for Flute and Mixed Quintet-*Burning Pierrot* *. ensembleGREEN members are all active in the Los Angeles musical community. e G offers them the chance to break out of their conventional molds and champion the music of today and the living composers of their community. To this end they have dedicated the entire 05-06 season to the celebration of Mozart. eG has done this by not performing any of Mozart*s music. Instead they celebrate the spirit of Mozart as a living composer, who struggled to create and present the music of his own time. They search out the community*s own modern day Mozarts and invite the audience to play a part in creating the concerts of tomorrow by listening, openly, intently and actively to the music of today. |
